Resource Description: 

This web-based, interactive course is designed for staff to gain the knowledge needed to conduct basic family planning education and counseling. It is designed to be completed in approximately two hours and can be done at your office or your home, at your convenience. The above documents are supplementary materials to accompany the online course.

Target Audience/Who Should Attend

This introductory E-Learning course is appropriate for medical assistants, counselors, community health workers, nurses and educators new to providing family planning counseling, or those staff members needing a refresher.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the importance of client-centered care to quality family planning services.
  • Describe reproductive anatomy and physiology.
  • Describe key points for counseling clients about contraceptive methods.
  • Describe how to discuss sexuality-related issues with clients.
  • Answer basic questions about sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Credits

This course is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 02604. Continuing Nursing Education credits are available for $12. You will be able to request and pay for Continuing Education credits after completing the post test and course evaluation. Check to see if your license accepts California Nursing Credit before requesting Continuing Education credits. Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) credits may be available at a later date.

Continuing Education for Community Health Workers (CHW)

 You will be able to request Continuing Education credits after completing the post test and course evaluation.

This training will offer 2.0 DSHS-Certified Continuing Education Hours for Community Health Workers (Competency Areas: 2.0 – Knowledge Base on Specific Health Issues).

Cardea Services is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services,  Certification # 44

Certificate of Completion

In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, participants must view all five lessons of the course, pass the online post-test with a score of 90% or higher, and complete a course evaluation.
